Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve is located in eastern Nepal and can be accessed from Kathmandu either by flight to Biratnagar or by road. The reserve has covered 175sq km of species of birds. A barrage on the southern side of the reserve has created a water reservoir where thousands of migrating birds from central Asia and Siberia visit the wildlife reserve in the winter. Established in 1996 and covering 175 square km, its numerous water holes, marshes and grasslands support a vast array of rare and endangered species of birds, as well as Asiatic Buffalo.
Located in Eastern Nepal (Sunsari, Saptari, and Udayapur districts), along the mighty Sapta Koshi River, Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve spans 175 square kilometers of lush wetlands, marshes, grasslands, and riverine forests. Established to protect Nepal’s last surviving population of wild water buffalo (Arna), the reserve has become a haven for diverse flora and fauna. Itinerary
Check in hotel. Same day we will take you a half day tour around Kathmandu Valley, visiting different monuments which are listed in UNESCO world heritage sites such as Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swoyambhunath Stupa. Return to hotel and rest.
Day 02: Departure to domestic airport for flight to Biratnagar.
An hour flight from Kathmandu to Biratnagar airport and pick up from airport for an hour drive to the camp. The diverse landscape of Nepalese terrain, the spectacular view of the high himalaya, mountains, terraced hills, forest and cultivation of the plain keeps one occupied during the journey. Another option is to arrive at the camp following the East West Highway and divert from Jamuwa to the camp (2.5 km) at Kusaha. Arrival to camp and welcome by camp manager, briefing about the services in the resort and the program, Lunch, Bird watching in the marshland outside the reserve Slide show on the natural history of the reserve followed by Nepali dinner.
Day 03: Wake up call, Breakfast, Full day excursion on boat
and four wheels drive with pack lunch to see waders, waterfowls, different birds, marsh crocodile, otters, wild water buffalo and Gangetic Dolphins including a visit to Pink Tower (full day) Cultural dance followed by barbecue dinner.
Day 04: Wake up call, breakfast, Continue bird watching
or optional elephant ride to watch Arna the wild water buffalo, blue bull, hog deer, fishing etc.
Day 05: Bird watching around the camp area and departure to Biratnagar airport for flight to Kathmandu.
After an hour flight to Kathmandu, pick up in airport and drive to hotel. Leisure day.
